Description

The original fundoshi is made of soft, lightweight Japanese sarashi fabric.

This is fundoshi in it’s raw and traditional form, made of breathable cotton that hugs your anatomy like a cloud. You decide how snug or loose it hangs, so it supports and conforms to you no matter how you’re built.

You can also buy it on Etsy.

How to tie rokushaku fundoshi (六尺褌)

Video 1. Our very first video how-to for putting on a traditional Japanese rokushaku fundoshi loincloth, if your sightline is at crotch level of the person showing you how.

Illustrated directions for putting on rokushaku fundoshi. Good for beginners and/or fundoshi virgins.

Illustration 1. Our illustrated version of how you put on a traditional Japanese rokushaku fundoshi loincloth.

  1. Place one end of the fundoshi on your shoulder, or grip it with your mouth. Grasp the other end in your hand.
  2. Keeping the one end on your shoulder or in your mouth, guide the other end in your hand between your thighs, pulling it taut against your skin. Once it gets to your taint, twist the fabric in one direction (so it gradually becomes narrower, like a rope) and continue pulling it up against your butt crack.
  3. At the top of your butt, run the twisted fabric along the top of either butt cheek, and pull it all the way around your waist. When you reach the top of the butt cheek where you first ran the fundoshi, tug firmly as you twist the end of the fabric around the “belt” or “band” you’ve created along your waist. Twist until that end of the fabrics runs out.
  4. Release the other end from your shoulder or mouth and pull it between your thighs (like in step 2).
  5. Keep twisting as you wrap it upwards and around the part of the fundoshi you’ve got up your butt crack.
  6. Once you get to the top of your butt crack, wrap it around the side of the fundoshi that hasn’t already been secured. And you’re done. Don’t worry if it takes you a few times to find the perfect tautness: the beauty of the simple rokushaku is that it is completely personalizable.

Tips

Adjust the front of the cloth till it feels right, loosening it to allow your package hang comfortably. In particular, pay attention to your balls, which are usually heavier on the left because the major arteries enter through your left testicle.

If you’re into acupressure: Pull the fundoshi extra-tight against the space between your balls and the beginning of your crack, also known as the “perineum”. This is where your body’s root chakra is activated.
